Often times when you’ve created this thing that’s taken a life if it’s own you’ll find many of those that will comment “you should” and it’ll be followed by, “do this, that or the other thing”. Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t listen but I am saying take it with a grain of salt. When this thing grows and you start following those that have inspired you most times it’s for a reason. And it’s that reason that’s made you listen because they’ve grown their thing too! It hasn’t been much but I know the few that have reached out to me and I’ve really listened because it was so valuable! Now for all the rest. Not that people don’t have good intentions or ideas but is it something that is going to benefit you? Is the person telling you that you should try out brand “x” of something different that you’re using that has only 100 followers and their profile set to private really going to be beneficial for you to listen to? Most likely not. There will be a ton of these people that crawl out of the woodwork that just want to chime in to feel part of a conversation, or make a comment just for comments sake. Listen a blade will get sharp using various methods but I promise you it will go much smoother and faster using the method that’s most consistent.
If you use certain tools, methods and techniques that have been working for you stick to that! As creators we can use these and fine tune them over time. Listening to everyone and their dog chime in to give their two cents that are not doing it for a living but more as a hobby. And often times aren’t at a skill level that is comparable to even give such advice. This isn’t ego talking it’s years of consistent experience vs. hobbiests. Continue to use the methods you know to sharpen your techniques and skills. If someone with more experience reaches out or vice versa definitely listen for insight but the real lesson will be time and consistency. Personally I’ve never commented on what someone should or shouldn’t do as far as their craft. It’s not my place to do so because I don’t know the end results they’re trying to achieve or how they are trying to achieve it. If someone comes to me asking that’s a completely different situation and a completely different story for next time.
